Course Overview
University of Warwick's BSc Data Science is jointly delivered by the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics — two of the UK's strongest in their respective fields (Statistics #1 in REF 2021 for research environment; Computer Science consistently top 10 in UK). The 3-year programme covers programming (Python, R, SQL), statistical inference, machine learning, deep learning, optimisation, and modules in applied data science across finance, healthcare and policy. An optional Year 3 industrial placement (paid £24,000-32,000) extends the degree to 4 years and has very high conversion rates to graduate offers — Deloitte, KPMG, IBM Research, BAE Systems Digital, Capital One, AstraZeneca all sponsor placements.
Sri Lankan applicants pick Warwick over Imperial or UCL because the entry requirements are slightly more achievable (AAA vs A*AA), the campus is self-contained (lower cost of living than London — Coventry is 35-40% cheaper), and Warwick's Mathematics + Stats brand carries equivalent weight with London quant employers (Goldman, JP Morgan, two-sigma, Bloomberg). Academic
- check_circle Sri Lankan Cambridge / Edexcel A Levels: AAA minimum with A in Mathematics; Further Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics strongly preferred.
- check_circle Sri Lankan GCE A/L: 3 As in Physical Science stream including Mathematics at A grade.
- check_circle IB Diploma: 38 points overall with HL Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) at grade 6.
- check_circle STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper) or MAT may strengthen application but are not mandatory.
