Course Overview
Malmö University's Bachelor's programme in Interaction Design is a three-year, 180-credit degree taught in English, and Malmö is one of Europe's best-known schools for the discipline. The programme focuses on the design of interactivity: not only how a product looks or what it does, but how it responds and how it feels to use. Students combine technical skills (programming, web and mobile development) with physical making (laser cutting, 3D printing and electronics), participatory and responsible design methods, and research-based theory in design and human-computer interaction.
For Sri Lankan school leavers who enjoy both technology and creativity, this is a rare undergraduate route into UX, UI and service design, fields where Colombo's software and product companies are hiring fast. Malmö sits across the Öresund bridge from Copenhagen in a strong digital-design and gaming cluster, and alumni work at IDEO, IBM, Sony Mobile and ustwo. Sweden lets graduates stay up to 12 months after their studies to look for work, and the degree also prepares students for master's study, including Malmö's own Interaction Design master's.
Entry Requirements
Academic
- check_circle General eligibility for Swedish higher education plus English 6 (English level 2).
- check_circle Sri Lankan applicants document general eligibility with the G.C.E. Ordinary Level and Advanced Level certificates, which must meet universityadmissions.se's minimum requirements for Sri Lanka.
- check_circle International selection is based mainly on upper-secondary grades, so strong A/L results matter.
- check_circle Apply through universityadmissions.se (mid-October to January 15) with certified school certificates; the first tuition instalment is paid before the residence permit is processed.
English Proficiency
- check_circle English 6 (the Swedish upper-secondary standard) is required.
- check_circle IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with no section below 5.5, or an equivalent TOEFL iBT result.
- check_circle Waived if you passed English as an A-level subject — universityadmissions.se accepts an A-level in English from Sri Lankan upper-secondary studies, documented with your A/L certificate.

Career Outcomes & PR
Sweden lets non-EU graduates apply for a residence permit of up to 12 months after their studies to look for work or start a business, with a route to a work permit and, over time, permanent residence. Malmö interaction-design graduates work in UX and UI design, service design and digital innovation, and alumni are found at IDEO, IBM, Sony Mobile and ustwo. The Malmö–Copenhagen region's game studios, product companies and design agencies (King, Massive Entertainment, IKEA's digital teams) recruit designers. Sri Lankan returnees fit UX and product-design roles at WSO2, Sysco LABS, 99x, IFS, Dialog and Colombo's design and product studios.
