Ampara District is one of Sri Lanka's most diverse — Muslim, Tamil, and Sinhalese communities all sizeable. We serve the district from our Batticaloa branch with full Tamil-medium support and multilingual counsellor allocation.
How we work
We don't have an office in Ampara — here's what we do instead
Our nearest office to you is in Batticaloa (~110 km, ~2 hours by car). Most of the application is done remotely — only document verification and visa biometrics require an in-person visit.
WhatsApp + phone
First conversation is on WhatsApp. We then move to a phone call with the student (and parents if they want). Shortlisting, SOP review, scholarship match all happen here — no travel needed.
One visit to Batticaloa
When your university applications are ready to submit, you visit our Batticaloa branch once for document verification — originals of transcripts, NIC, passport. A4 (Pottuvil–Batticaloa) coastal road; intercity buses from Ampara and Kalmunai run hourly to Batticaloa.
Visa biometric in Colombo
Once your visa file is ready, you visit the VFS centre in Colombo for biometric capture. We book the slot, prepare the file, and walk you through what to bring. Same trip for every student in Sri Lanka — there's no district-level alternative.

Local advantage
Why Ampara students choose Lanka Scholar
Tamil, Sinhala, and English in one branch
Our Batticaloa branch handles all three languages. Parent meetings can run in whichever language the family is most comfortable with — and we adapt the document-walk-through accordingly.
Eastern Muslim community served
Akkaraipattu, Kalmunai, and Sammanthurai have large Muslim populations with Gulf and Malaysia ties. We shortlist Dubai, Malaysia, and Islamic-finance UK programmes alongside the conventional Western options.
Eastern Province scholarship awareness
Several UK and Australian universities run scholarships that prioritise applicants from under-represented regions — the East qualifies. We track these year-round and match Ampara profiles where possible.
