Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS)
The Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS) is NTU's flagship PhD award — by nomination only, reserved for the most outstanding PhD applicants across NTU's schools (Engineering, Science, Business, Computing & Data Science, Humanities, etc.). Sri Lankan applicants are competitive at NTU when they have a first-class Bachelor's, strong final-year research project, and ideally a publication or research assistantship. The award covers full tuition plus a monthly stipend for up to 4 years.

First-Class Honours
A first-class Bachelor's degree (or strong upper-second with a Master's). Sri Lankan applicants from UoM, UoC, UoP, USJ engineering and science programmes who graduated in the top of their batch are the typical fit.
Research Track Record
Demonstrable research aptitude — final-year project, publications, conference papers, or research assistant experience. A strong research proposal aligned with an NTU PI's active programme is critical.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.5 (with no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 90+. GRE may be required by some NTU schools — check your target school's specific requirements.
By Nomination Only
NPGS is not a direct-apply award — you apply for NTU PhD admission, and the school nominates the strongest candidates. Engaging with a prospective NTU supervisor early (Aug–Oct) before applying significantly improves your chances of nomination.
account_tree Application Process
Contact an NTU supervisor
Identify NTU faculty whose research matches yours and email them with your CV, transcripts, and a short research statement — ideally August to October before the December deadline. Supervisor interest is the single biggest driver of NPGS nominations.
Apply for NTU PhD admission
Submit your PhD application via the NTU Graduate Admissions portal between 1 November and 31 December 2025 for August 2026 intake. Indicate interest in NPGS within the application.
School nomination
Each NTU school nominates its strongest applicants for NPGS — typically January to February. There is no separate scholarship form; nomination happens internally based on the admissions file.
Interview and selection
Nominated candidates are invited for a university-level interview (typically March–April) and selection decisions are announced by May, ahead of the August intake.
Why NTU?
NTU is ranked among the top 20 universities globally and consistently in the top 5 in Asia for engineering and computing. The campus in Jurong West houses Singapore's largest concentration of research labs outside A*STAR.
