Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters
Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) are prestigious two-year postgraduate programmes delivered by a consortium of at least three universities in different European countries. You study in two or three countries during the programme, and graduate with a joint, double, or multiple degree. The European Commission funds the scholarships — covering tuition, a generous monthly stipend, travel, and insurance — making EMJM one of the most competitive and most rewarding scholarships available to Sri Lankan students.

Bachelor's Degree
Hold (or be in your final year of) a Bachelor's degree relevant to the chosen Joint Master's programme. Each programme sets its own academic threshold — most expect a strong 2:1 or first-class equivalent.
Open to Sri Lankans
Erasmus Mundus is open to applicants from anywhere in the world. Programme Country and Partner Country applicants compete on equal terms, though some programmes have geographic quotas — typically reserving at least 75% of awards for non-EU applicants.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.5–7.0 (most programmes) or TOEFL iBT 90+ is standard. A few programmes also require basic proficiency in a second European language for the mobility year.
Single Application
You can apply to a maximum of three Joint Masters programmes in any given cycle. You cannot already hold an Erasmus+ scholarship for a Master's.

Search the EMJM catalogue
Browse the official catalogue at erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/opportunities to find a programme matching your field. Around 180 Joint Masters are active across disciplines.
Apply directly to the consortium
Each programme runs its own application — you do not apply to the EU centrally. Most consortia ask for a CV, motivation letter, transcripts, two references, English certificate, and a 2–3 page research interest statement.
Meet the programme deadline
Deadlines vary widely. Most close between January and March 2026 for September 2026 entry, but some programmes close in October–December of the previous year. Check each programme separately.
Selection and notification
Consortia review applications jointly in spring 2026 and rank candidates for the limited EU scholarship slots. Results are typically announced April–May, with conditional offers first and final confirmations in June.
Why Erasmus Mundus?
EMJM is the gold standard for studying in multiple European countries on a single funded programme. Graduates emerge with three networks (one per host country), a joint degree, and the right to apply for the EU Blue Card to work anywhere in the EU after graduation.
