MSc Public Health
University of Geneva
Course Overview
The University of Geneva — Switzerland's second-largest university — sits in the world capital of global health, minutes from the WHO headquarters, UNAIDS, the Global Fund, GAVI, the Red Cross (ICRC), and dozens of health-focused UN agencies and NGOs. Its English-taught MSc in Public Health (run through the Global Studies Institute and Faculty of Medicine, with a strong joint relationship with the Geneva Health Forum and the Graduate Institute) trains practitioners in epidemiology, health systems, health economics, global-health governance, and the policy of equitable health delivery. Swiss public-university tuition is remarkably low — roughly CHF 500 per semester — so the headline cost is living, not fees.
Sri Lankan applicants with an MBBS, BSc Nursing, BSc Public Health, or a strong social-science background aimed at health policy fit the cohort well, and many students complete internships at the very international organisations next door. English-medium Sri Lankan degrees can waive the language requirement via an MOI letter. Switzerland allows non-EU graduates a six-month post-study residence permit to seek qualified work, and Geneva's unrivalled concentration of health institutions makes it a launchpad into international public-health careers.
