MSc Psychology of Mental Health (Conversion)
University of Edinburgh
Course Overview
Edinburgh's MSc Psychology of Mental Health (Conversion) is a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited Conversion programme — designed for graduates from any discipline who want to switch into clinical psychology. On successful completion (with a minimum overall pass of 50% and a pass in the core BPS modules), graduates are awarded the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS, which is the gateway qualification for further training as a Clinical Psychologist (DClinPsy), Counselling Psychologist, or Educational Psychologist in the UK. The 12-month MSc covers cognitive, biological, developmental and social psychology, research methods, and a clinical specialism module — with a 60-credit empirical dissertation in semester 3.
Sri Lankan applicants choose Edinburgh because the Conversion route does NOT require a Bachelor's in Psychology — biology, sociology, education, even arts graduates qualify. Edinburgh is ranked top 25 globally for Psychology (QS by Subject) and the BPS GBC qualification is internationally portable: the Sri Lanka Psychological Association (SLPA) accepts BPS-accredited Master's qualifications for chartered membership pathways. Graduates qualify for the 2-year UK Graduate Route, which provides a workable window to apply for the highly-competitive UK NHS DClinPsy programmes (3-year salaried doctoral training).
