Victoria University of Wellington (Te Herenga Waka)
Course Overview
The LLB at Victoria University of Wellington is New Zealand's most policy-connected law degree — the Faculty sits in Pipitea, a five-minute walk from Parliament, the Supreme Court and the head offices of every major government ministry. Sri Lankan students completing A/Ls (or an existing Bachelor's degree) gain direct admission into the four-year programme, which qualifies graduates to practise law in New Zealand after the Professional Legal Studies course.
First year covers the compulsory Legal System and Public Law foundations; years 2–4 layer in contract, criminal, tort, equity, jurisprudence and constitutional law, with electives spanning Treaty of Waitangi law, international law, technology and IP, and Pacific legal traditions. The Faculty is consistently ranked in the QS top 100 for law worldwide and has produced more NZ Chief Justices, Attorneys-General and Prime Ministers than any other law school.
