Why is NZ PhD tuition so much cheaper? expand_more
In 2006 the government changed the policy: international PhD students pay the same fee as New Zealanders. Eight universities, all globally ranked, all at NZD 7–9k/year. There's no equivalent policy anywhere else in the English-speaking world. -
How does the post-study work visa work? expand_more
Bachelor's, Master's and PhD graduates get an open work visa — no employer sponsorship needed — for up to 3 years. Long enough to qualify for Skilled Migrant residency if you find a job on the Green List. -
Can my spouse come and work? expand_more
Yes — Master's and PhD students can bring partners on an open work visa. Children get free public schooling. This is more generous than the UK (no dependants for taught Master's) or Australia (no work rights for partners of bachelor's). -
Is the NZD 20,000 living-funds requirement strict? expand_more
Yes. INZ won't process your visa without it. Sponsor account works (28-day rule similar to UK). We prepare the financial proof pack as part of every NZ application. -
Why don't I hear about NZ as much as UK or Australia? expand_more
Because it's a quieter market — only 8 universities, smaller population, fewer Sri Lankan alumni making noise. The value is genuine; the marketing budgets aren't.
