Warwick Chancellor's International Scholarship
The Chancellor's International Scholarship is the University of Warwick's flagship doctoral award for international students. Around 25-30 scholarships are awarded annually across all academic departments — covering full international tuition fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend matching the UKRI rate (£21,000+ per year). Sri Lankan PhD applicants apply through their chosen department; final selection is centralised.

Outstanding Master's Record
Typically a Distinction-level master's degree (or a first-class Bachelor's plus exceptional research potential) in a discipline relevant to your proposed PhD.
Applying for a Warwick PhD
You must have applied to (or hold an offer for) a full-time PhD at the University of Warwick for October 2026 start. Every Warwick department participates in the scheme.
International Fee Status
Open to applicants classified as international fee-paying — including Sri Lankan citizens. Home (UK) fee-status applicants are not eligible.
English Proficiency
Warwick's standard PhD English requirement — IELTS 7.0 overall with no component below 6.5 for most departments (Band A); 6.5 overall for some Band B departments.

Identify a supervisor + apply for PhD
Contact prospective supervisors at Warwick from October-December, agree your research project, then submit a full PhD application (research proposal, CV, references, transcripts) via the Warwick online portal.
Tick the Chancellor's box
Indicate on your PhD application that you wish to be considered for the Chancellor's International Scholarship. There is no separate form — the academic application doubles as the scholarship application.
Departmental nomination
Each department reviews applications and nominates a small number of top candidates to the central Doctoral College by late January / early February.
Central selection + decision
The Doctoral College ranks nominees across the university and issues outcomes in March-April for October 2026 entry.
