EDISU Piemonte Regional Scholarship (Right-to-Study)
EDISU Piemonte is the regional right-to-study agency of the Piedmont region, funding students at Turin's universities — the University of Turin (UniTo), Politecnico di Torino (PoliTo), and other regional institutions. Its scholarship (borsa di studio) is Italy's classic need-based support: a means-tested annual cash grant, plus separately a free or heavily subsidised place in university housing and a meal-card contribution for eligible students who qualify as 'off-site'. Unlike a merit prize, EDISU support is driven mainly by your family's economic situation (income and assets), with modest academic-progress requirements to keep it in later years. For Sri Lankan students admitted to a Turin university, this is one of the most substantial funding routes available — but it is administratively demanding: you must submit legalised, translated proof of your family's income and assets, and the assessment uses Italy's ISEE/ISEEU-equivalent rules for non-EU applicants. Apply strictly within the annual call window and start the document legalisation early, as late or incomplete income evidence is the most common reason applicants miss out.

Enrolled at a Piedmont University
You must be admitted to or enrolled at a university served by EDISU Piemonte — most commonly UniTo or PoliTo in Turin. Sri Lankan citizens are eligible on the same need basis as other non-EU students.
Economic Means Test (Primary)
The award is driven by your family's income and assets, assessed on Italy's ISEE/ISEEU-equivalent rules for non-EU applicants. You must submit legalised and officially translated income and property documentation from Sri Lanka — this is the decisive and most demanding part.
Academic Progress (Renewal)
First-year students qualify on need; to keep the grant in later years you must earn a minimum number of credits (CFU) by set dates. It is need-based to enter, merit-maintained to renew.
Apply Within the Annual Call
There is a strict yearly application window (bando). Late or incomplete submissions are rejected — begin document legalisation and translation months ahead of the deadline.
account_tree Application Process
Secure admission to a Turin university
Gain admission/enrolment at UniTo, PoliTo, or another EDISU-covered institution first — the EDISU grant attaches to your enrolment there.
Prepare legalised income/asset documents
Obtain, legalise (apostille/consular) and officially translate proof of your family's income and assets in Sri Lanka. This should start well before the call opens.
Submit the EDISU application in the call window
Apply online through EDISU Piemonte's portal within the published bando dates, uploading your economic documentation and university enrolment details.
Ranking, award and services
EDISU publishes ranked lists; awardees receive the cash grant in instalments and, if eligible as off-site students, an accommodation place and meal support. Arrange your Italian study visa and residence permit in parallel.
Why EDISU Piemonte?
EDISU is the public body behind student welfare in Piedmont, running residence halls, canteens, and grants for tens of thousands of students at Turin's universities. For genuinely under-resourced but able students, it can turn an otherwise unaffordable Italian degree into a realistic one — provided the income paperwork is done properly.
