Bachelor in Psychology
Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich
Course Overview
LMU Munich's Bachelor in Psychology is one of Germany's top-ranked psychology degrees — LMU sits at #1 in Germany for Psychology (Shanghai subject ranking) and top-50 globally (THE). The three-year programme follows the standardised German psychology curriculum, providing the academic foundation for the protected-title Master in Klinische Psychologie und Psychotherapie required to practise as a psychotherapist under the 2020 German Psychotherapy Act reform. Core modules cover general psychology, biological foundations, methodology and statistics, social psychology, developmental psychology, differential psychology and an empirical bachelor's thesis.
LMU Psychology is taught entirely in German — there is no English-medium track at undergraduate level. Sri Lankan applicants must reach DSH-2 or TestDaF 4 before enrolment, typically via a one-year intensive German programme in Sri Lanka (Goethe-Institut Colombo) plus a German-side language course. Admission is via the standard German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (university entrance qualification) route — A-Level + Studienkolleg or direct equivalence assessment through uni-assist. Admission is competitive but less restrictive than Medicine — local numerus clausus typically clears around 1.5-1.8 Abitur.
