Bachelor of Communication
Queensland University of Technology (QUT)
Course Overview
QUT's Bachelor of Communication is one of Australia's most respected media degrees and is built around a unique "two majors" structure — students combine Journalism, Digital Media, Public Relations, Advertising, Entertainment, Media and Communication, or Professional Communication. The Gardens Point campus in central Brisbane houses The Cube (Australia's largest interactive learning installation), full broadcast studios, and the QUT-run print and digital newsroom that publishes alongside the Brisbane Times.
Sri Lankan applicants choose QUT because Brisbane has been designated a regional study location since 2023 — graduates qualify for an additional year on the 485 Temporary Graduate Visa (3 years instead of 2). Journalism graduates feed directly into the ABC, SBS, News Corp Australia, and Nine; Digital Media graduates route into agencies and tech companies. QUT also has explicit articulation pathways from Sri Lankan diplomas (SLIIT, NIBM) that can credit transfer up to 1 year of study.
